My name is George, and I'm a Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) who recently
completed the 250 hours of supervised experience required for full certification through the
Texas Certification Board. I had the privilege of completing this journey under the supervision of
Ta’Kisha Moore, who served as my Peer Specialist Supervisor.
From the very beginning, Mrs. Moore took the time to thoroughly explain the MHPS
certification process. She also connected me with facilities where I could gain “hands-on”
experience and complete the required hours for certification. Navigating this part of the process
can often be challenging, but Mrs. Moore made it seamless and far easier than I had anticipated.
Throughout my supervised experience, I met with Mrs. Moore biweekly to discuss my progress,
reflect on my experiences in the peer support role, and work through any challenges or ethical
considerations. She consistently ensured that the environments where I was placed were a good
fit and provided thoughtful guidance to navigate complex situations. Her support always made
me feel confident and grounded in my work.
In addition to providing direct supervision, Mrs. Moore regularly organized free educational
opportunities to support my professional development. These sessions not only expanded my
knowledge and skills but also contributed to my continuing education credits. What stood out
most was Mrs. Moore’s active participation in these offerings. She did not just organize the
educational experiences, she fully engaged as a learner and peer. Her involvement reinforced the
sense of teamwork and mutual growth, which made the learning experience even more
meaningful.
I am incredibly grateful for Mrs. Moore’s mentorship. Her professionalism, encouragement, and
unwavering support made a lasting impact on my development as a Mental Health Peer
Specialist. I couldn’t have asked for a more competent, compassionate, and inspiring supervisor
during the certification process and beyond.
Takisha Moore is a professional with her peers and offers exquisite coaching. She offers exceptional guidance and her pleasant demeanor is warm and welcoming.
I have had the unique pleasure of having Ta’kisha Moore as my supervisor throughout the process of completing my Recovery Support Peer Specialist certification. Ta’Kisha’s supervision has changed the course of my life, providing me with the tools and knowledge needed to positively impact the lives of others, transforming suffering into skillset.
With great attention to detail and individual style, Ta’kisha masterfully sourced opportunity after opportunity to empower and enrich me and she continues to do so. Everything she’s done, or provided access-to, has been deeply thoughtful, intentional and beneficial to my personal and professional advancement. I’ve experienced so much growth through this process as a direct result of her diligent efforts.
It is clear to me that Ta’kisha is invested not only in the positive evolution of my life and career, but in the evolution of Peer Support as a concept, resource and vocation.
I am truly blessed to have Ta’kisha as my supervisor.
You've been such a tremendous part of my life and within the Peer community.
Ta’Kisha Moore, who served as my Peer Support Supervisor from Summer of 2022 through the Fall of 2023. Ta’Kisha’s leadership, compassion, authenticity, professionality and wholehearted belief in me and
my potential was the catalyst for me gaining my initial MHPS certification, developing
the professional skills necessary for the work I would be doing, and the hope inspiring
mentoring that led to my decision to continue in the field, where I now am dual certified
(MHPS & RSPS), deeply involved in advocacy in the field and working towards
becoming a Peer Support Supervisor myself.
Under Ta’Kisha, I received the encouragement, structure, and inspiration needed to
thrive during those vital early months. Ta’Kisha provided not just supervision, but true
guidance — fostering confidence, resilience, and a passion for making meaningful
changes and sometimes through difficult personal struggles like transportation and
housing issues. It is because of Ta’Kisha’s support that I was able to cultivate an
authentically unique approach to Peer Support because she demonstrated true
creativity and innovation, which allowed me to grow into my role, and am now making a
profound difference in the lives of others.
I wholeheartedly recommend Ta’Kisha for any opportunity that recognizes and values
outstanding leadership and dedication within the peer support field and whatever
resources that may come from it. Ta’Kisha exemplifies the spirit of recovery, community,
passion, hope and I wouldn’t be where I am today without her hardwork.
