This initiative seeks to support the community by placing a certified peer specialist in a non-traditional institution like a local library or community recreation center. Our focus is to deliver services and resources to rural and under resourced communities that may not otherwise have access to mental and emotional health supports. The goal is to address some of the most pressing mental health challenges facing communities: depression, anxiety, and other types of mental health conditions, using evidenced based modalities as well as non-clinical supports. Rural communities in Texas struggle to meet their residents’ mental health needs due to a shortage of mental health care providers in these areas.
We are confident the PINK LOVE Project will be effective and triumphant based on the evidence of the Libraries for Health pilot program. This 3-year initiative, that has been extended twice for 6 months both times, has successfully placed peer specialists in 8 rural libraries across central Texas and is doing what we strive to do. We want to be a part of the movement that is spreading this love and care to rural communities.
